Overview
Zhongnan Hospital of Wuhan University (ZNWU) was founded in 1956, that is a Grade-III Class-A(Chinese Hospital Ranking System) hospital featuring medical care, education, medical research, and public rescue service, locating at waterfront of the East Lake and adjacent to the Wuhan Central Cultural District (Chu River Han Street). We have over 3,300 beds and a medical team staffed by famous doctors, including over 500 senior doctors, 51 doctoral student tutors, 195 postgraduate student tutors, 21 receivers of special allowance provided by the State Council, 8 Hubei First Medical Pacesetters, and 2 Distinguished Luojia Scholars of Wuhan University.
The hospital has a complete structure, which includes 46 clinical departments, 17 research divisions, one testing laboratory, 15 class-two discipline doctor’s degree accreditation programs (internal medicine, surgery, oncology, clinical laboratory diagnostics, etc., among them 11 class-two disciplines have right of enrolling doctoral students), 19 clinical medicine class-two discipline master’s degree accreditation programs, and one nursing science class-one discipline master’s degree accreditation program. The hospital also has several research platforms, including the National Drug Clinical Test Base, the Digestive Endoscopic Diagnosis and Treatment Training Base of the Ministry of Health, Hubei Tumor Biological Behavior Key Laboratory, Hubei Intestinal Disease Key Laboratory, Hubei Transplantation Medicine Key Laboratory, Traditional Medicine Endocrine Class-three Laboratory of the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and the Cerebrovascular Disease and Cognitive Impairment Class-two Laboratory of the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine.
In recent years, the hospital has undertaken over 1000 national, provincial and ministry-level research projects, including “973” and “863” projects, public health projects, key scientific research projects, National Natural Science Foundation key/crossing/youth research projects, and provincialcity level projects, and has received more than 100 awards for scientific researches, including Hubei Outstanding Science and Technology Contribution Prize and Hubei Science and Technology Progress First Prize, etc. There are over 500 research papers included in SCI. Many famous scholars have the privileges of holding important academic titles with international and domestic journals, Chinese Medical Association, provincial and city level medical societies/associations.
The hospital is responsible for the teaching of undergraduate students of clinical medicine and laboratory medicine, the students of seven-year education program (including Sino-French joint education program), the students of eight-year education program, the students of Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, and the foreign students from over 20 nations, as well as the education of doctoral and postgraduate students. The hospital has an over 2500 m² clinical medicine center equipped with various simulation dummies, molds, models, simulation training aids and simulated experiment system, etc., and it is Hubei Clinical Medicine Teaching Demonstration Center, National Medical Examination Center (NMEC) Medical Licensing Examination Practical Skill Examination and Examiner Training Base, and National Resident Doctor Standardized Training Base.
The core value of the hospital is “pursuit of excellence and respect of life”, as Profs. Gui Xi’en and Li Yan enjoy high prestige for their outstanding medical techniques and professional ethics. Prof. Gui was rated as one of the ten “Medical Heroes of the World” by the Timemagazine, and was awarded many titles including First National Top Ten Medical Ethics Models, Bethune Medal, and “People’s Medical Scientist” (by Hubei Provincial People’s Government); Prof. Li Yan was awarded the title “People’s Doctor” by the Hubei Provincial Commission of Health and Family Planning; Prof. Zhou Yunfeng was awarded the French Knight Badge and the Nationalof the Legion of Honor by the French government.
The hospital has established partnerships with medical schoolshospitals of the United States, Britain, France, Germany, Canada, Australia, the Netherlands, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, and has maintained frequent communications with University of Nancy, University of Lille, University of Lyon, Toulouse 3, etc.
