The application window for Chinese universities is more forgiving than the US or UK system, but it rewards organization. Most autumn intakes close between March and May, with a smaller spring intake in October–November.

Pick a track first, schools second

Decide whether you're applying via CSC scholarship, university scholarship, or self-funded. Each track has different deadlines and document checklists.

Document the documents

You'll need notarized transcripts, a passport scan, two recommendation letters, a study plan (800–1500 words), language proficiency proof (HSK 4+ for Chinese-medium / IELTS 6.0+ for English-medium), and a physical exam form.

Tailor the study plan

Generic plans get filtered out. Reference the specific lab, professor, or research center you're targeting. Show you've actually read their recent publications.

Submit two weeks before the deadline. Email systems get congested in the final days, and admissions offices respond more thoughtfully when they're not buried.
