China's student visa system is bureaucratic but predictable. Every misstep we've seen comes from misreading a checklist, not from arbitrary rejection.
X1 vs X2 — pick the right one
X1 is for studies longer than 180 days; X2 is for short-term courses. Apply for X1 if your program is a full degree.
The 30-day clock after arrival
Within 30 days of landing, convert your X1 visa into a residence permit at the local PSB. Miss this window and fines stack quickly.
Health check requirements
The "Foreigner Physical Examination Form" must be completed at a designated hospital — your home-country results are usually re-tested on arrival anyway. Save the original; you'll need it for renewals.
Always carry your passport copy and residence permit. Police checks at train stations and hotels are routine, not targeted.
